What is colour management?

Using a profile to softproof
In Photoshop CS4 go to
View > Proof Setup
> Custom
(in earlier versions this was File>Proof setup)
Select your newly installed Metro Imaging soft proof profile from the list.
Click on
Save
and name your profile so you will be able to use it for softproofing.
You can use
View > Proof Colours
to soft proof your image.
You will see the title of your file changing with the profile moving on and off.
Toggling between the working space and the profile in this way helps you see the adjustments you will need to make for the printer and paper profiles. Look for changes in reds and greens in particular. Very bright colours may appear dulled when the softproof profile is showing. You can now change your file so that these shifts in colour are less noticeable. This is the advantage of softproofing before sending your images to print.
Once you are happy with your file, you can save it with the profile (convert to profile).
Got to
Edit> Convert to Profile
and select your chosen profile.
If you would like to check the profile of a file you can always see it at the bottom of the file as shown below:
show>document profile
.
