Metroprint: the latest step
in a thirty-year journey
Metroprint is the latest innovation in a long history of servicing the needs of photographers by Metro Imaging. With a hard-earned reputation for fine quality work, the experience we have accumulated across 30 years gives us real insight into how to get the best out of every image.
In the nineties Metro grew into the capital’s largest lab, with studios, equipment hire, digital imaging and above all, 24 hour film processing at five different locations. The digital revolution changed everything and Metro began focusing on printing over processing as the next big thing.
Having established Metroart as an early experimental printing division in the nineties, Metro worked in partnership with Ilford to crack genuine black and white printing from digital files. Argento followed, with a small team of specialist printers working one to one with a host of prestigious British black and white photographers, digitising and releasing editions of prints into a growing market for heritage British photography.
Working with galleries, collectors and museums, Metro Imaging’s specialist scanning and printing team now restore and master many important photographic images exhibited in the UK and abroad. The expansion of the contemporary art market in the past decade has lead to the addition of more unique services, such as the installation of an extremely rare Supersize Lightjet printer to service the demand for supersize colour photographic prints.
Metroprint is designed to make available Metro’s high-level of investment and expertise to all photographers, especially those who may be working in colour-managed environments, proficient in imaging software. Metroprint is a new entry-level service designed around a growing number of photographers who want remote expertise and 24 hour ordering at very affordable prices. Of course traditional, specialist printing services will always remain central to Metro’s business but Metroprint makes everything customers have always liked about Metro; good colour management, amazing machines, genuine black and white prints on black and white paper, available 24 hours via the web. We see it as the latest step in a thirty-year journey.
