'If Not Now' Photography Series from Award-winning British photographer Mike Whelan
Celebrating and commemorating 50 years of the charity Contact the Elderly, Mike Whelan's latest photography project opens in London this month featuring C Type images produced and mounted by Metroprint.
Whelan was inspired to work with the charity after seeing the wonderful work it does in local communities all over the UK to help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation in older residents. Travelling around the UK over an 18-month period, Whelan captured 50 older residents at the charity’s monthly tea parties arranged by groups of dedicated volunteers for Contact the Elderly.
Contact the Elderly currently has over 570 groups in England, Scotland and Wales, which provide a regular, consistent and vital friendship link every month to over 4,600 elderly people aged 75 and above, supported totally by 7,200 volunteers.
A selection of these photographs will form part of the E17 Art Trail, which features over 250 exhibitions and events with 4,000 local people exhibiting or performing as part of the festival programme.
