Metroprint is once again delighted to be partnering with Cork photo for the 2018 festival and sponsoring them with exhibition printing, events, and discounts for participants.
Founded by Louise Maher and Naomi Smith, Cork Photo festival is an artist-led initiative, highlighting local photographers in venues across the City. The open theme and inclusive approach adopted in the first year continues, allowing everyone to take part. They embrace experimentation and encourage viewers to seek out and explore.
The Cork Photo team curates exhibitions by both local and international artists, bringing together independent galleries, arts organisations, individuals, and collectives all wishing to exhibit and celebrate photography. Past festivals have toured with Brighton Photo Fringe and have also showcased work by award-winning photographers Alexandra Lethbridge and Monica Alcazar-Duarte.
The festival is now biennial, taking place during the month of April with a wide range of artists, collectives and local businesses involved. This years program promises to provide an exciting array of quality workshops, events and exhibitions including The Photobook Show – J Book Show, Triskel 40 Photo Prize and Lomography People’s Choice Awards.
Also on show will be the collective exhibition Elastic which showcases work by photographers acknowledging mental health within practice or process. This show will involve a mix of Metro’s clients and past mentorship winners -including Lynda laird, Joanne Coates, Jessica McDermott, Courtney Husslemann– in one of the CPF18 main hubs, St.Peters Church.
In addition, there will be a day-long Photo Symposium on Art + Practise involving curator and artist lead tour of Elastic, talk with editor of Source Photographic John Duncan and panel discussion with founders of the art space ‘Dali + Gala’.
